Match Fixing comes to haunt cricket again

Former New Zealand all-rounder Chris Cairns, former Test opening batsman Lou Vincent and fast bowler Daryl Tuffey were reported to have been investigated by the International Cricket Council as part of a match-fixing probe. It said no players had been charged with any offence but a probe is ongoing into "fixing activity" and related matters.

Tt issued a statement in response to a report in the New Zealand Herald that up to three former Black Caps - whom the paper later reported were Cairns, Tuffey and Vincent - were being investigated by the ICC’s anti-corruption and security unit (ACSU) for alleged match and spot fixing.

Former New Zealand international Lou Vincent confirmed he was "cooperating" with the ICC.
"This investigation is bound by a number of rules and regulations that mean I am unable to make any further public comment," he said in a statement.
Cairns said he had no contact with ICC officials over match-fixing. "I’ve yet to be contacted by any of the authorities involved, NZ Cricket or ICC, so to be perfectly honest I’m as much in the dark as you guys,’’ Cairns said.
A spokesperson for New Zealand’s Sky TV said: ‘He has elected to stop commentating on the current Test match and come back to Auckland to be with his family. Sky will be talking to him over the coming days.’
"The sources are not credible and the accusations are unsubstantiated, making them irresponsible, damaging and untrue," White said in a statement at the time.

It all started with a London Sunday Times article last year, in which Indian bookmaker Vicky Seth was quoted as saying that he had paid at least two New Zealand cricketers to cheat.
Lawyers acting for Cairns said the allegations are entirely untrue and there are no objective grounds for an investigation into their client.
NZC chief executive David White said earlier he knew the names of the players but would not elaborate, other than saying that current members of the New Zealand team were not involved.

Cairns is working for Sky TV as a commentator in Dunedin at the moment. Tuffey is believed to be living with his partner in Sydney while Vincent’s whereabouts is unknown at the moment.
