Premier League Day 19: Arsenal finishes the year on top, Manchester City second

Arsenal produced a resilient performance to win 1-0 away from home at Newcastle and stay at the top of the Barclays Premier League with 42 points after the halfway stage. Manchester City also recorded a narrow 1-0 win over Crystal Palace to keep pressure on Arsenal. They are on 41 points. Chelsea also maintained their chances of winning the league with an important 2-1 home win against Liverpool who drop to the 5th place.

Everton won 2-1 against Southampton to finish the year in the 4th position while Manchester United continued their resurgence with their 4th consecutive victory but remain in the 6th position. The defending champions laboured to a 1-0 away victory over Norwich City. Tottenham Hotspur also recorded a very important 3-0 victory over an awful Stoke City and keep pressure on the top 4.

Hull City recorded an emphatic 6-0 victory over the hapless Fulham side who remain in deep trouble in the 19th place. Sunderland continued to lie in the 20th position after they could only draw 2-2 at manager less Cardiff City. Swansea City drew 1-1 away at Aston Villa while West Ham lie in the 18th place after their entertaining 3-3 draw against West Bromwich.
