Greatest Rivalries in Football - Manchester United vs Arsenal

Two of the biggest clubs in England and surely the most anticipated teams in Europe as well. One gets a rough idea of beautiful football when it comes to both of these teams. Its not long as this rivalry starts, it was in the 90’s when this Arsenal-United rivalry took off. Due to many reasons such as FA Cup, Premier League top place, and the longest serving 2 managers were the possible reasons which led to this rivalry.
This rivalry is notable in the Premier League as both of the teams have a great history as well as present. Not only that, both clubs have been in top flight since 1919, which adds more onto it. The most famous match had to be Manchester United vs Arsenal match back in the 2003-2004 season. Nistelrooy’s last minute missed penalty was controversial and it did help Arsenal remain as the ‘Invincibles’ as the match ended 0-0.
Two of the most famous players who’ve changed sides have to be Robin Van Persie and Mikael Silvestre. Silvestre spent 8 good years with United and won a resounding 11 cups with them before moving onto Arsenal. Meanwhile, former Gooner Van Persie had notched 132 goals in total and became the 8th all time top scorer for Arsenal before transferring to the Red Devils.
As per recent match ups, the last match was played between these two sides on 28 April 2013, with the match at the Emirates ending 1-1. The goalscorers were Walcott and Van Persie respectively.
Arsenal are having a great 2013 Premier League season, being at the top of the table currently and having had brilliant European success, The Gunners look impressive this season. As on the other hand, David Moyes is not actually able to make the most of Utd’s precious talent, as the Red Devils at present lie on the 8th position with only 11 points. Moyes and his team have to perform better in order to be in the top 3 again and to bring them back to winning ways.
Arsenal fans would be loving Arsene Wenger more than themselves, because the French brought in Mesut Ozil and this German playmaker hasn’t let any of his fans down. He has made a huge impact after making a big money move from Madrid to Arsenal. Loads of assists as well as goals can be seem from this man. He is one of the players to surely watch out for this season. Not only him, the whole Arsenal squad looks to be in top form. Arsenal fans are already loving this season with brilliant performances from Ramsey, Giroud, Wilshere, Vermaelen, Cazorla etc.
United fans have a lot less to cheer about. They lie in the 8th position and their fans seem to be really upset about this. Boasting about their success all the time, Utd fans might feel really annoyed with hearing sarcastic or rather leg pulling comments from other fans. Rooney is their main man this season. On a personal note, for me he has performed better than Van Persie. And not to forget Adnan Januzaj, he is one hell of a wonderkid. After so many amazing performances in the last matches, he looks to be promising. With only 18 years of age, this lad has got alot of things to learn and he will go on to make the ‘44’ jersey a famous one.

Players to watch out for this season :
: Ozil, Giroud, Cazorla, Wilshere, Ramsey.(Arsenal)
: Van Persie, Rooney, Januzaj, Rafael, Valencia.(Manchester United)
