Who is this outstanding talent Manan Vohra?

We all are aware of the impending IPL 7 auctions and so teams are in a phase of getting a head start by choosing the right players to retain as the first stage of their team building strategy for the next 3 years. In such a scenario, if a team decides retain a 20-year old virtual unknown over international stars like David Hussey, Shaun Marsh as well as established domestic players like Piyush Chawla and Praveen Kumar, then that youngster must be something special. We are talking of Kings XI Punjab here who decided to retain Manan Vohra ahead of the auctions while other teams are busy retaining the Malingas and the Narines. So, obviously Priety Zinta, Ness Wadia and co. must have seen something special in him which made them latch on to him. In fact, he has also started to create ripples in cricketing circles, with both existing and ex-players speaking highly of him, the most recent of them being Yuvraj Singh.
So who is Manan Vohra? Well although most of us somehow are very unaware of him, he has impressed many with his ability. He is a right-handed opening batsman from Chandigarh who made his first-class debut for Punjab in 2011-12 season but took some time to make his mark until he made that match-winning 187 against Jharkhand. He has also represented the India under-19 team not so long ago and was almost a regular in the Kings XI Punjab playing eleven in IPL 2013. Playing at No.3 in the IPL he could only manage a few cameos, finishing with 161 runs in 10 matches. Although he hasn’t scored really heavily till now to be noticed by one and all, he surely has managed to catch eye balls whenever he has performed. Most people in the cricketing fraternity, who have seen him talk highly of his ability and he is also touted to be the next Yuvraj Singh. Vohra of course has to back up those accolades with runs but maybe he is too young to get the best out of him so early or even to have ability of reacting in a constructive manner to praises is a big thing for him.
In his sort career so far, the Chandigarh born lad has also had to battle hard and has had the taste of things not going his way, when he fractured his hand which led to him missing the U-19 World Cup, for which he was a certainty in the side and which could have also turned him into an instant star as it happened with Unmukt Chand.
Being the grandson of a legendary Indian Hockey player would surely help him instill confidence in himself during tough times and keep that sportsman spirit up but in the time to come Vohra is expected to be a consistent former in the domestic circuit, thereby living up to his talent. If that happens, then who knows, a call-up for the national side might to be far away, but he definitely has to lay the groundwork first.
