Leander Paes–Radek Stepanek stun Bryan brothers to reach the US Open Men's Doubles final

Leander Paes and Radek Stepanek stunned top seeded and hot favourite pair of Mike and Bob Bryan, who were chasing a rare Calendar Grand Slam, to storm into the US Open men’s doubles final for the second successive year.

The top-seeded brothers, who won this year’s Australian Open, French Open and Wimbledon men’s doubles titles, came up short in their match against the fourth-seeded Czech Radek Stepanek and India’s Leander Paes, losing 3-6 6-3 6-4.

The American twins were trying to become first doubles team since 1951 to collect all four Grand Slam titles in the same year. Australian team of Ken McGregor and Frank Sedgman had achieved the rare feat of winning Calendar Slam in 1951.

The Bryan twin’s loss also ended their 28-match winning streak in the Grand Slams and stopping their run two wins short of what would have been the first Calendar Slam in the Open Era.
The twins’ last loss in a Grand Slam match came in last year’s Wimbledon semifinals against Jonathan Marray of Britain and Frederik Nielsen of Denmark.

Leander Paes will be vying for his 14th Career Grand Slam and 8th Grand Slam title in Men’s Doubles when he takes the court on Sunday in his 16th Grand Slam doubles’ final.
