Best Striker in England this season is a blue named Lukaku

Romelu Lukaku, all but 20 years of age Belgian, top goal scorer in Belgium with Anderlecht in 2010, found his way to his ‘dream’ club Chelsea 2011 and played just one game for them in that season. In 2012, he was loaned to West Brom where he played 20 games in the EPL and scored 17 times. This year he is loaned to Everton where he has produced 7 goals in 7 EPL games.
So, is he the best in the EPL right now? Depends on your definition of best.
If number of goals scored and matches played is the criteria – Lukaku is beaten by only Suarez with 9 goals in 7 games. But compare the shots they have taken per game. Suarez has taken almost double the shots taken by Lukaku. So, we can give this round to Lukaku.
Now when exactly has Lukaku scored? He scored two against Newcastle which Everton won 3-2, one against Villa which Everton won 2-0 and two against Liverpool which Everton drew 3-3. Compare this to Suarez and you see him scoring braces and hat-tricks in some of Liverpool’s comfortable victories. Lukaku’s performance against Newcastle and Liverpool got him the Man of the match award as well. Clearly Lukaku comes out as the winner in this round.
Against Newcastle, Lukaku scored one ,created another and scored one more from a goal kick after going round Newcastle’s goalkeeper. He bettered that in the Merseyside derby where he cooly slotted one into the net and then put a powerful header in the back of the net in the last 9 minutes. Indeed some match winning performances against the best teams in the EPL in some critical situations.
Great strikers also need some good service from their midfield and Everton does not have the best midfielders in the world. Inspite of that Lukaku has shown some good physical and aerial ability in the D along with some sound presence of mind to get 7 goals this season for Everton.
The Premier league is just a dozen games old now and Everton has Manchester United and Arsenal lined up. There would be no better places in the world to shine than Old Trafford and the Emirates for this 20 year old, who certainly looks to be the best striker in the EPL right now. Surely, Chelsea and Mourinho are hoping that he does shine!
