Table Toppers!!!

The transfer market ended in the first week of September and plenty of teams were busy making additions to their squad. The last day saw huge money being exchanged between clubs and players moving across. Liverpool however stood out in this business of buying and selling of players. With a small budget they have improved on the squad they had. Credit to Brendan Rodgers who has learnt from the mistakes of the previous season when the departure of Andy Carrol on loan and not being able to fill up that void with Clint Dempsey showed his relative in experience. But now after signing three players on the deadline day and sitting top of the table with three matches, Liverpool indeed look like they are moving in the right direction.

They started off well as they bought in players quickly at the start - Kolo Toure, Simon Mignolet, Luis Alberto and Iago Aspas all joining Liverpool. However after that they failed to make any marquee signing. They failed to persuade players like Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Diego Costa and Willian to join them before finally taking Aly Cissokho on loan. Finally they bought in Victor Moses, Mamadou Sakho and Tiago Ilori to make a squad which many people think are competent enough to challenge for the top four.

However Liverpool still are not ready to challenge for the title. At current squad strength they should finish sixth. Anything above it would be a great season for them. However a lot of expectations are there that they would be in the top four this season . For that to happen they need to play as a unit. Kolo Toure in his recent interview stressed on this aspect. Even Brendan Rodgers knows that he needs to move forward with a closely knit team. If he is successful in doing it, it won’t take time before we see the special Anfield nights during Champions League.
