India vs West Indies 2nd Test: Its advantage India as Ojha and Ashwin destroy West Indies

India are firmly in the driver’s seat in Sachin Tendulkar’s final test here at Wankhede Stadium. After bowling out West Indies for a paltry 182 runs thanks to a five wicket haul by Pragyan Ojha and three wickets for fellow spinner R. Ashwin, India ended the day at 157/2 trailing West Indies by only 25 runs with Sachin Tendulkar and Cheteswar Pujara at the crease on 38 n.o. and 34 n.o. respectively.

In the morning, Sachin Tendulkar’s 2ooth and the final test began with a felicitation to the Little Master: N Srinivasan presented him with a memento, the West Indies team gave him a framed autographed shirt, a painted portrait was presented to him, the coin at the toss was a specially minted one featuring Tendulkar, and MS Dhoni gave him a special cap with ‘200’ printed on its brim.

MS Dhoni won the toss and asked the West Indians to bat first. West Inies did not have a great start losing their star man Chris Gayle to Mohammed Shami for 11 runs with the team score reading 25/1. Kieran Powell and Darren Bravo then consolidated the innings with a 61 runs partnership before both the batsmen were sent back to pavilion in quick succession. West Indies were looking to get to a good score with the experienced pair Marlon Samuels and Shivnarine Chanderpaul in the middle. Instead, they slid from 140 for 3 to 182 all out as India’s spin pair of Pragyan Ojha and R Ashwin ripped through the batting line up. Pragyan Ojha figures read 5/40 and Ashwin took 3/45 while B. Kumar and Shami took a wicket each.

Murali Vijay and Shikhar Dhawan got India off to a flying start. They were scoring at nearly 6 an over throughout their 77-run opening stand before Shane Shillingford struck twice removing Dhawan and Vijay in the same over. The fall of the 2nd wicket brought Sachin Tendulkar to the middle much to the delight of the spectators and the Master Blaster didn’t disappoint them. Sachin together with Cheteswar Pujara consolidated the innings with an unbeaten 80 runs partnership to see out the day without any further damage.
