Arsenal cruise to victory against Fenerbahce in Champions League playoff

Arsenal registered a comfortable 3-0 victory against Turkish giants Fenerbahce in the first leg of Champions league playoff with goals from Kieran Gibbs, Aaron Ramsey and Olivier Giroud.
Arsenal made just one change to the side that lost to Aston villa with injured Alex Oxalde-Chamberlain replaced by Santi Cazorla.
Fenerbahce who also lost their opening fixture in the league handed out starts to new signings Bruno Alves and Michal Kadlec.
In the first half, Arsenal was clearly the better of two sides as they enjoyed good possession. But the sense of urgency was clearly lacking in front of goal as Giroud and Ramsey were unable to capitalize on chances created.
Arsenal suffered a cruel blow when Fenerbahce striker Webo struck a nasty kick in Koscielny’s face. It was a dangerous challenge that left French defender bleeding profusely and Carl Jenkinson was called into action in his place. Webo escaped with only a yellow card.
Fenerbahce looked clueless in the opening half but came back strongly in second half. However, it was Arsenal who took the lead with Kieran Gibbs scoring from Walcott’s pass.
Arsenal kept up the pressure and Ramsey struck a 22 yard low shot into the bottom corner in 64th minute.
The Turkish side started playing with more conviction as Szczesny was forced into save by Sow and kadlec.
Theo Walcott who had been outstanding on right wing once again forced a rash challenge from kadlec to earn a penalty. Giroud stepped up to convert the penalty and took the game away from home side.
Unless a miracle happens in second leg, Arsenal can look forward to their 16th straight Champions League Season under Arsene Wenger.
