Question.

Rohit Sharma better than Virat Kohli ?

Rohit Sharma better than Virat Kohli ?

We all thought that it’s impossible to break the records achieved by Sachin Tendulkar. He might be the greatest cricketer in terms of shot selection, temperament and modesty but right now two batsman stand to challenge everything he achieved. Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma are scoring runs at pace that seems almost scary at times. Spare a thought for bowlers who have to bowl when the duo are batting together.

Here are Rohit Sharma’s scores in November

1. 209 (158) against Australia(ODI) Bangalore Nov. 2
2. 177 (301) against West Indies(Test),Kolkata Nov. 6
3. 111* (127) against West Indies(Test),Mumbai Nov. 14
4. 72 (81) against West Indies(ODI),Kochi Nov. 21
5. 12 (19) against West Indies(ODI),Vizag Nov. 24
5. 4 (14) against West Indies (ODI),Kanpur Nov. 27

Kohli on the other hand has been consistent ever since he made his debut way back in 2008. He has amassed 17 centuries and 28 fifties from just 122 ODI matches. To put this into perspective, he is currently 10th in the list of maximum centuries scored. The next person on the list is Mark Waugh with 18 and he has done it in 244 matches i.e. double the number of matches as Kohli.

So, who is more capable to be India’s next best thing ?
If you take God given talent, Rohit Sharma seems to be the obvious choice. His range of shots and ability to come back from poor form seems to something that makes him unpredictable and dangerous. On the other hand, Virat Kohli’s game is based on aggression. People close to him say that it is this aggression that makes him so good. He has vastly improved in the previous one year but it still remains to be seen how he will handle himself in a position which demands him to be of a good temperament.

The thing that works best for Rohit Sharma is ability to lead. He has had just 3 losses when he captained Mumbai Indians. He seems to have earned the respect of his peers too. While it still remains to be seen how far these 2 lads can go, one thing is for sure : the Indian Team has a bright future.
