The Groups of Death of 2014 World Cup

Now that the World Cup draws are done, we take a look at the “Groups of death”.
United States are in the same pool (Group G) as Germany, Portugal and Ghana. Germany is one of the best teams in the tournament. Portugal is also a formidable opponent. Cristiano Ronaldo can wreck any defense if it’s his day. Ghana and USA are the “weaker teams” in the group. Both the teams do not have much to lose. They surely won’t make it easy for the two European Football giants to go to the next round.

Group B consists of Netherlands, Chile, Spain and Australia. Spain is the strongest among the four and will surely make it to the next round. Netherlands and Chile are also strong opponents. Chile has been consistently scoring and can add a scare factor for even teams like Spain and Netherlands.

England will have to face Uruguay, Costa Rica and Italy in Group D matches. England and Italy are old rivals. Luis Suarez is in great form for Liverpool. If he continues to score at this pace for his country, he will surely have a huge role to play in deciding which teams qualify for the knockout round. Costa Rica is UNCAF’s strongest nation and has beaten USA and Mexico in qualifying rounds. Italy looks like it will qualify to the knockout stage. England and Costa Rica will have to fight it out.
