Australia beats England by 84 runs, completes a 12-1 overall romp.

Another day, another venue, but the same result for the visiting English team as they were defeated by a huge 84 runs in the final match of their tour. This victory ensured a 3-0 whitewash in the T20, coupled with a 5-0 whitewash in tests and a 4-1 win in the ODIs.

The very fact that Australians were 139 after 16 overs shows you how horribly they bowled in their final three overs. Starting off positively, Finch and White gave a good aggressive start for the Aussies. While Aaron Finch and Glenn Maxwell, who was promoted, fell in quick succession, White got a stable partner in Ben Cutting, who didn’t flinch on punishing the bad balls. Just when it looked like the Aussies were ready to take the score to around 180+, quick wickets from Stuart Broad, including 2 in the 3 balls, ended up with Australia being in a spot of bother. Then comes in skipper, George Bailey. With some good support from Matthew Wade, Australia were poised to reach a score of about 175. But Dernbach does an Anderson, after he was dispatched for 26 runs in the final over of the match, by Bailey. Bailey ended up being the top scorer with 49, and the England had to chase a huge target of 196.

But from the word go, the English team never looked positive in chasing.  The top 4, including the promoted Luke Wright, failed horribly, with only Root reaching the doubles figures of 11. Eoin Morgan came to the crease, and he was playing positively. But alas, it seemed he was waging a lost battle. He never received any real support from the other end, and the English team crumbled to a score of 111- the nelson number. Only four players- 2 tailenders, managed to make it to the double digits, and just Eoin Morgan was the one who managed to score above 15. This match somewhat summarised the horror tour down under of England.

Now with the series finally over, now the England can go home and deeply analyse what went wrong. Whereas for Australia, the South Africans are waiting for them, at their den. The South Africa series starts from 12th February.
