Kevin Pietersen to play for India!! What's wrong with BCCI?

A bizarre article that surfaced two days ago, suggests that the Board of Control for Cricket in India has offered the banished English Batsman Kevin Pietersen to play in its domestic Ranji Trophy league. The report also says that Pietersen might appear in Delhi’s squad and also that BCCI is eyeing to get the rules for availability for selection of a foreign national into a country’s squad relaxed so that he can play for Indian team in the 2015 World Cup. The article says that it is a completely fictional writing but let us hypothetically assume that all it has said is correct. If there is such a scenario then we can say that the top bosses at BCCI have lost their mind. There is no doubt about Pietersen’s credentials as a player, but for a nation such as India which can, at this moment of time, have two national teams if they want, does not need his services. Thanks to the IPL and the excellent facilities which most of the state boards in India possess there has been no dearth of talented youngsters for selection into the national side. Even if the board ignores this consideration and goes ahead with inviting KP to feature in Ranji and he performs well, where will he fit in the Indian Squad? At present the teams middle order is looking in perfect shape with Virat Kohli, MS Dhoni, Ajinkya Rahane, Suresh Raina and Ravindra Jadeja and it seems that these guys will not let go of their spots so easily. Even if they don’t perform we have the likes of Yuvraj Singh who definitely is as big a match winner as KP is, and Dinesh Karthick who have received grand bids for IPL, for the record “way higher than KP”, along with others like S. Badrinath, Ambati Rayadu waiting for getting selected. Where will Pietersen fit in? The decision will also give a bad signal to the world of cricket from BCCI and there would be a great harm done to the reputation of India, which is considered to be the powerhouse of talent in the present scenario. Not only that, BCCI has a reputation to take care of. It cannot bend its rules to get one player into the team. This step may also cause a dissent among the players who are working hard for their place and the can cause serious damage to their morale too. Hence we believe that even if such a thought strikes the minds of people in the board seeing the opportunity after Pietersen’s suspension from England team, they should flush it down the drain immediately. It will be in the best interest of everyone. And after all, it’s always fun watching the Indian team play against KP, so let’s keep it the same way and let him try his luck in Bangladesh or Zimbabwe, who might need him more.
