Is it too late for Manchester United to finish in top 4 in the league?

Manchester United, a club known for its world class players and its top class game are now in a fight for a position they never thought of they will be in. A club which had to finish in the top of the league table is now fighting to reach there and just make it to the Champions league. At such times of distress we evaluate the chances of this glorious club of making the cut and saving its glory run.
We start with the number of games left in hand for ManU. The club has somewhat 11 games left with them to prove themselves and reach the top four position. It currently lags 11 points behind Liverpool and Arsenal & 5 points behind Tottenham.  The coming fixtures suggest that ManU will have to face two big clubs in EPL like Liverpool and Manchester City and the rest of the fixtures are with the clubs with lower rankings which ManU may find easy to win with. So to keep the top 4 ambition alive it should ensure that it wins not only with lower ranking clubs but also at least ends up in a draw with the two big clubs.
Now speaking about the club’s own manager David Moyes. It is a high time for David as from now on it’s going to take all of the Scot’s cunning, leadership and man-management skills to motivate a side who, at times this season, have seemed indifferent to his cause. He should use his skills and find a best way to accommodate his top 3 players Mata, Rooney & RVP so that these players can make a big difference in the matches to come. Finding a best way in such a short span of time is really going to be a challenge for Moyes.
Another reason to worry about in the fight to making it to the top spots is United’s defensive abilities. United, having already shipped 29 goals and now only a single loss away from equaling their worst ever total Premier League defeats, appear slightly befuddled at the back. One reason for United’s trembling defense can be lack of experienced players in its defense on one side & ageing players like Rio, Vidic, Evra on the other. They have nothing in between these extremities which makes the balance go wrong and they have paid for this polarity.
Finally, combining all these factors, the real link between them can be seen as lack of proper utilization of the January’s transfer window. ‘Panic buy’ or no ‘panic buy’, the £37.5 million capture of Juan Mata is certainly a coup. While Mata is fantastically gifted, he doesn’t really solve any of United’s more salient issues. United must have focused on its mid field and defensive abilities in the transfer season to get proper reinforcements who can carry United to the next level. By signing only Juan Mata in January’s transfer window United now lacks talent in these vital areas and it may well end up costing them far more than an inflated January price tag.
In all, it’s a very difficult stage for United and they should see to it that they don’t lose any of their matches as it will just put their top 4 position dream away.
