What are the positives for Manchester United from their US tour?
Manchester United showed that even after finishing 7th in the premiere league last season their commercial might and fans haven’t gone down. To say that most of the fans showed up would be an understatement as both the Rose Bowl and Michigan stadium got the records broken on most attendance ever. This could be one of the biggest positives ever for Manchester United just to know their fan base is in such a huge amount even after last season’s debacle. This though wasn’t the only positive on a very productive preseason for Manchester United. The following are the positives for Manchester United from the preseason tour.
1. Confidence of the team in itself
The most observable thing last season was that the team lacked any confidence in itself. They didn’t look like a team who was playing to win at all. They looked vulnerable at the back and awkward at the front. The midfield was not there at all. In the preseason however they seemed to have got their swagger back winning all the matches they played albeit one through penalties. They not only won all the matches they won against some of the european giants and not just some local teams on US tour. The confidence they showed as a team was worth watching and the fans enthusiasm helped them.
2. Mata and Rooney
Mata and Rooney seem to be playing at their best. Rooney won the best player award at the International Champions Cup giving many assists as well as scoring some wonderful goals. Rooney looks like a man with a mission. He looks to be enjoying his role in the team. He is not only coming to score goals but also picking up the ball from the defence and then giving great long balls to his team mates. One such long ball even resulted in a wonderful goal from Mata. Mata was another one who shone in the whole tour. He is getting to play in his favourite role at CAM, plus now he has two strikers infront of him which makes him even more dangerous at not only picking up passes but scoring goals.
Ashley Young was the surprise package of this tour. The much criticised winger had to adjust to a new position at wing back under Louis Van Gaal. He not only rose to the challenge but also could have won the best player award. He was good in defense but most importantly his crosses carried the threat everytime. He scored some wonderful goals also and they were not by any means a fluke. He has become a very dangerous player under LVG in that he has has speed skill and really good crossing ability. Not only that he can also score some spectacular goals.
4. New signings shone through.
Luke Shaw and Ander Herera were signed by United for around 60m. Both showed that they could live up to their price tags in the preseason. Ander Herera came into a midfield which has needed reinforcement since forever. He not only slotted in well but also created many opportunities by his very dangerous passes. He seems to have got a good understanding with both Darren Fletcher and Tom Cleverly. He seems to be shining in the 3-5-2 system very well. He slotted in this system like a duck to a water. Luke Shaw on other hand took some time to slot in and also received criticism from LVG but he came back stronger and played a really good game. If he can maintain the consistency he can very well prove to be a very good investment for Manchester United.
5. New formation,Solid defence
The new formation of 3-5-2 seems to have been made just for Manchester United. The wingers of Manchester United may have to sacrifice but in all the other ways the system seems to be suit United very well. The defence seems much solid even though they are adjusting to a new system and even academy players Michael Keane and Tyler Blacket seem to have adapted to it very well. Johnny Evans has impressed LVG and seems to be offered a much important role if he can stay injury free. This season is going to be very entertaining for Manchester United Fans
