Question.

Goodbye Torres?

Goodbye Torres?

With Chelsea topping the league table right now, you might conclude that they have their past problems sorted out. But, you’d be wrong. At least in terms of strikers, there is no name on the Chelsea roster that stands out. Some might say, Fernando Torres, but, are you kidding me brother? Fernando Torres is the past now. Lukaku excelled last season, but with the way Chelsea plays, he might not have the same effect this season. But to analyze that also, we need to see him play first of all. Andre Schurrle got to play against Manchester United in the 0-0 draw and he seemed impressive. So, that puts his name on the list I guess. And in comes the news that Chelsea have signed Samuel Eto’o from Anzhi Makhachkala on a one-year contract. So, the big question is: Goodbye Torres? Maybe it is time to bid farewell to the Spanish striker. It will be better for both parties. Chelsea paid a hefty sum for Torres but he was like a non-performing asset for them. For Torres, the time at Chelsea has been frustrating. From silly mistakes to awful performances, nothing has gone his way. Yes he did win the Champions League there, and even scored in the final, but well, did he really contribute? Torres, you were just a liability, so either just warm the bench now or send in the transfer request because son, anywhere but Chelsea will do for you.
The 32-year-old Eto’o will reportedly be taking a £10m pay cut from his £17m per year salary with Anzhi to reunite with former manager Jose Mourinho at Chelsea. However, the Russian side are believed to have given him a £1m lump sum pay-off to get him off their wage bill. Eto’o won the treble under Mourinho at Internazionale in 2010. We might just see the new pairing of Schurrle and Eto’o set the league on fire or they could also turn out to be duds. Time will tell.
