The Djoker sustains 'Manislas';No.1 and No. 2 for an abominable faceoff to resolve their WTA top spot

After the end of a sensational Roland Garros final, where Rafael Nadal stole away all the glory in the 5th set, I and my friend bet upon a US Open final between the same two people, while I bet on Rafa he bet on Djoko. Call it prodigy or a conspiracy of the universe, we who were so unsure and had made blind bets on a 50-50 distinctly probable clash (had Djoko and Rafa been in the same leg, our bet would have rendered meaningless). So the bottom line is Monday night, the 15th (extended) day of the tournament would witness with aghast another phenomenal final between the Serb and the Spaniard. This would be the 3rd time they are destined to meet, earlier two encounters led to a 1-1 give away, it was Nadal who won in 2010 and Djokovic in 2011. With Murray slightly pausing the continuity, the titlist would be again one of these top two seeds. Nadal cruised past Richard Gasquet in a 3 setter, 6-4, 7-6, 6-2, the only newness, that he was broken for the first time in the tournament in the second set. Nadal who now bettered his hard court wins record to 21-0, with an improved serve and his already devilish base line hitting poses resounding threat to the No.1 seed. Stanislas Wawrinka gave ‘duskmares’ to Novak Djokovic on Day 13 Semi-Final at the Ashe. Taking a sumptuous lead in 2-1 sets, the world no. 1, must have seriously felt at least on one instance that this guy is surely going to the finals for the first time. But as it is said, with experience comes that rare power to defend till the end, Novak made his way back, winning the last two sets, 6-3, 6-4 setting up for himself the 5th Final on the hard turf in his career. So Monday will be a magnificent night when the night play at the US Open 2013 will witness a bloody battle being decided upon, and thus enlightening us on who is the real Champion, who deserves all.

To talk of what’s coming up, is a recap of the 1996 US Open finals, where in both the men and women category we had the battles of No.1 and No.2, where Steffi Graf and Pete Sampras had prevailed over Monica Seles and Michael Chang. Today in the evening the 2012 final will be dealt upon again as Azarenka would try to try avenge the last year’s bout.  Serena who plays her seventh final at the Flushing Meadows has shown an impeccable and invincible form not dropping even a single set this time on the turf. Undoubtedly, it’s going to be a finesse final to watch for in the golden shades of the Ashe, Billie Jean King’s arena. Showing ardent superiority over Na Li, a 6-3, 6-0, and as stated by critics, a stupendous effort on Aza’s part, an A-plus game, with chthonic defence skills up on the line and her pro-level base hitting might just show a miraculous result for a change. Well not very far behind, the Belarusian has dropped just two sets en-route to this momentous day.

While you read this, Leander Paes and Stepanek wage battle against No. 2 seeds, Peya and Sorres, for the third US title of Paes and 1st for Stepanek.
