Alan Pardew's headbutt: Why he should be penalized severely?

Alan Scott Pardew, the second longest serving manager in the premier league has been in the wrong side of the news recently. The Newcastle manager was sent to the stands during the second half of a match against Hull City at the KC stadium. The news might be shocking to some, but looking at the manager’s behavior in the past, it might not be that surprising.
No doubt that Alan Pardew has been instrumental in Newcastle United’s revival. With awards including Premier League Manager of the Season and LMA Manager of the year, Pardew has been pivotal in taking the club forward. The compassion and determination that Pardew has demonstrated as a manager can clearly be seen by some of the unbelievable comebacks by Newcastle United under his reign. The 4-4 draw against Arsenal in Feb 2011 is probably still remembered as one of the best comebacks in the history of Premier league. After 4-0 down, which team would be expected to turn the situation entirely, that too against a top side like Arsenal. With the ability to hone any player’s skills, Newcastle United under Alan Pardew has produced some best players like Demba Ba, Yohan Cabaye and Papiss Cisse. With a list of accolades and awards under his belt, Pardew however has not been shy of any controversies in the past. These include his disputes with Arsene Wenger and his recent abusive remarks against Pellegrini. In addition, Pardew has also hit the headlines for physically pushing an official at the touchline. After such a heavy list of accusations and unprofessional display behind him, Pardew had to be a touch careful in not letting his image tarnish further.
The head butt by the Newcastle boss was certainly an utter moment of madness. Hull city vs Newcastle United started off with a good style of play by both the teams. But the situation just got hotter when, Meyler shoved Pardew out of the way to collect the ball and the pair got particularly close only for the Newcastle boss to force his head towards the player. It was a needless action that was least expected by a manager of Pardew’s caliber.
According to the latest news, we hear that, the Newcastle boss has been punished by the Football Association charge of improper conduct relating to the head butt. The punishment may be appropriate at this stage. However the plausibility of a ban still remains.
If Zidane’s headbutting drew attention and criticism, Pardew’s misconduct may not be far away from an unforgivable punishment. He might even be sacked from his role, if he continues to be disrespectful and immature in the face of the media and public. There is certainly a need for such stringent rules, because there must not be any other manager repeating the same mistake and getting away without any punishment.
The future of the club may depend on Pardew. However if he cannot learn to be cautious in his reactions, all his achievements for the club will be overshadowed by his unprofessional behavior.
